New Horizons

August 2008 will see the launch of Cornwall Symphonic Brass a new and exciting brass group led by it’s Musical Director, Graham Boag when it has it’s first rehearsal. The ensembles membership is taken from the best orchestral brass players from across the county and will perform four concerts per year. Graham Boag (MD) has said, ‘this is a very exciting and unique development in Cornwall. I hope that with the quality of players around the stand this (ensemble) will soon be held in high regard throughout Cornwall and further a field for musical excellence’

The date of the first public performance is yet to be confirmed but it is anticipated that it will be Saturday 20th September 2008 at the Truro Methodist Church. The programme will feature Janacek’ Fanfare from ‘Sinfonietta’ the Finale to Saint-Seans, Organ Symphony and a new arrangement of the March form ‘The Pines of Rome’.

Further information will be announced soon so please check this page again in the near future.

End of the Road

It is with great regret that I have had to step down from my position with the PolySteel Band. Due to increased work commitments and a round trip of 398 miles to rehearsal it was agreed that I could not give 100% to the band at this time. I am proud to have been part of this fine band and enjoyed every minute of my time there. I would like to wish the band every success for the forthcoming Masters and English Nationals. I am sure this is not the end of our relationship and I look forward to playing with them again in the future.

Further news will be announced on this site in due course.

3rd PLace for PolySteel at Torquay

Despite giving a quality performance and being strongly tipped to win the Area tile for the second consecutive year the band left Torquay on Sunday evening disappointed. Despite this the band is not downhearted and will start preparations for the All England International Masters to be held in Cambridge on 25th May. I would like to congratulate Mount Charles and SWT Woodfalls bands who have qualified for the Royal Albert Hall National Finals in October this year, I’m sure they will represent the West of England well.

New Year, New Band

I am delighted to announce that I have joined the PolySteel Band with immediate effect. I look forward to the challenges ahead and making fine music with this exciting band. My first official appearance with the band will be at Yeovil on the 2nd February, closely followed by the West of England Area Contest on 9th March. Look out for further news on this page.

Seven Year itch!!

After a seven year association with CTB, which I have enjoyed immensely, I have decided to take time out of playing to concentrate on my arranging, writing and conducting. Good luck for CBT in the future, so watch this space for exciting new musical pieces from Tubariffic.com

As the winning band of the Championship Section, Camborne were the last band to march up before performing the traditional short concert in the square to round off the day. I had the privilege of conducting the band who played 'The Cossack', 'All In The April Evening' and finally 'Deep Harmony'.

Well done to the 'B' Band on their fine performance which saw them take the Third Section title.

Thank you for all who voted and as you can see it was an interesting result.

After an unsettled time regarding the Resident Conductor position with Camborne Town Band (CTB), I am delighted to announce that with immediate effect I have been appointed as the Assistant/Associate Resident Conductor of CTB. I am delighted to have been asked to take on this role and look forward to working with the band.

However, it is with great sadness that I also have to announce that my commitment to Yeovil Town Band has now ended. I would like to thank all the musicians at Yeovil Town Band for the hard work and support that they have shown since my appointment as resident Musical Director. I wish them well for the future and to grow from this years Area result and maintain Championship status for years to come.

Camborne Town Band came fourth at the West of England Area Contest. Despite a very strong performance Camborne Town Band could only manage 4th place at Torquay on Sunday 11th March. Yeovil Town Band maintain Top Section status by being placed higher than local rivals Sherborne Town. Yeovil will consolidate over the next year and return a stronger band for the 2008 contest. Congratulations got to PolySteel who came away with the top spot and Mount Charles in second; both bands go forward to represent the West of England at the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall in October this year.
